No matter what, go for it. When Savannah State revived its Man and Woman of the Year awards after a 60-year hiatus, Alicia Montgomery ’19 was its number-one pick. The honors go to two students who are leaders, who lift up and support men and women on campus. And Alicia’s love for helping and connecting with others made her a perfect choice.
It was a huge moment for the business management major who, just a few years ago, never even thought she’d go to college. Alicia struggled to keep up her grades in high school. Out of frustration, she called it quits. Until a conversation with a recruiter who told her the only way they could help was for her to graduate. So she did.
Fast-forward. Alicia’s the first in her family to go to college. An ambassador to the White House. Student body vice president. Organizer of a mentoring program for women. An intern at Gulfstream Aerospace. And a role model to her sister, who got a full-ride scholarship to go to college herself.
And it’s all thanks to her unshakeable spirit.
